EMDR is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain process experiences that were never fully resolved. When something overwhelming happens, memories and emotions can get “stuck,” continuing to shape how you see yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. EMDR uses gentle bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping—to help the brain reprocess these experiences so they no longer feel as intense or controlling.
Rather than only talking about what happened, EMDR works directly with how memories are stored. Many people notice relief in a shorter amount of time than traditional talk therapy, along with shifts in long-held beliefs like “I’m not enough” or “I’m not safe.” As these beliefs soften, clients often experience more self-trust, emotional freedom, and ease in the present.
Somatic Experiencing focuses on creating safety in the body first. Before approaching difficult memories or emotions, we work on helping your nervous system feel more grounded and supported in the here and now. This might include noticing sensations, slowing things down, and learning how to come back to a sense of steadiness when emotions rise.
By building this foundation of safety, your system isn’t pushed beyond what it can handle. Over time, this approach helps your body learn that the past is no longer happening, allowing deeper healing to unfold at a pace that feels manageable and empowering.
EMDR & Somatic therapy
In therapy, you may notice that different “parts” of you want different things—one part wants to speak up, another wants to shut down; one part craves connection, another pulls away. Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work help us explore these inner dynamics with clarity and compassion.
Instead of trying to think your way out of old patterns, we get to the deeper emotional learnings that are driving them. Many of these responses were formed during overwhelming or painful moments in the past. When we access these emotional roots in a safe, guided way, the brain can naturally update them through a process called memory reconsolidation—a neurobiological mechanism for true, lasting change.
This work often leads to similar outcomes as EMDR: patterns that once felt automatic lose their grip, emotional intensity decreases, and clients feel more grounded, empowered, and in charge of their lives. Parts Work allows these shifts to happen gently and collaboratively, at the pace your system needs.
Together, we help your parts release outdated burdens and reconnect with your core sense of Self—so you can move through the world with more ease, confidence, and choice.
